Day 12 - Twin Falls, ID to Burley, ID (42 miles)

Started off today's shorter ride, by taking one of the 2 side trips we were told about down to Twin Falls. Really nice spot, but had a 17% grade climb into a 20 mile an hour headwind to get back out on to the route. Here are a couple of pics from the falls....

...closeup of the falls....

...and a shot of Mark and Katie enjoying the view.

After the falls, it was another great day for having a tailwind. Wish we could bottle those up and save them for our really long days. Stopped once or twice for photo ops, but being out in the farmlands, the scenery started to kind of blend together with not a lot of changes. Still, I thought there were some nice views from time to time....

And after getting some laundry done, I decided to check out the drive train care clinic that Mike was putting on. Learned about all kinds of things I should be doing (that I haven't been doing), to keep my bike clean and in good shape. Looks like I'll be trying a little "hands on" practice over the next few days.

Of course since our team won the scavenger hunt today, we each get our chains cleaned by Jeff from the ABB support team the next time.
....of course, he's the one who, at the first of the ride, explained that he's a contractor by trade, and that if it can't be fixed with a hammer and saw, he may have a bit of trouble......we'll have to see what happens there.

Looks like the route has changed just a bit for the next 2 days. Instead of a 109 mile ride tomorrow, we'll only be going 88, and then the 35 mile ride the next day has changed to something like 60 or so. Hopefully these tailwinds will be around for a while longer, so we can rest up for our climb back up into the mountains over the next few days.

Thanks for reading. Check back again.

  1. Hey Gerard! Jenny (Tubb) Trock here in North Central Idaho (Orofino) cheering you on. Good for you!!! My sister is into bikes too, but no cross country stuff - at least not yet. Thomas and I will be praying for a safe and fun trip for you. God bless!

P.S. I love your sister - she's one of the dearest friends I ever had. :)
